THE FutsalIndex GUIDE

Results in. Rankings move.

A rating is an estimate of team strength based on recorded results. Every team starts with a performance rating of 1,500. The displayed team rating adds its division and competition participation bonuses to that performance rating. A win against a higher-rated opponent earns more than an expected win.

One cohort. One permanent rating.

A squad keeps its rating as it moves up each season: a 2025–26 U9 becomes a 2026–27 U10, and a U10 becomes a U11. Boys and Girls remain separate; Boys includes records previously labelled Mixed. Each territory has its own national table. County and regional tables filter that territory’s table. These ratings are not yet calibrated for international comparisons.

Division and competition bonuses

England retains +1,000 / +500 / +250 for adult Tiers 1–3. Other countries require source-verified division membership for the stated season. National adult tiers use those base points, scaled by the country’s separately verified men’s or women’s FIFA futsal rank: top 5 ×1.50, top 10 ×1.35, top 20 ×1.20, top 40 ×1.10; an unverified rank uses ×1.00. Regional divisions receive half the national amount. Youth Tier 1 uses 25 points per year above U8 (minimum 25, maximum 300): U12 +100, U16 +200, U20 +300, before country and regional scaling. Tiers 2 and 3 receive half and one quarter. Cups, unknown tiers and mixed/open categories receive no division bonus. Membership expires at the season boundary and is not inherited into the next age class. FIFA strength is a documented national-team proxy; it does not recalibrate match Elo between countries. Each bonus is included once, not once per match. Rankings and rating history include these bonuses; match adjustments and the below-1,500 participation rule use the performance rating before these fixed bonuses. Teams without eligible results remain unrated.

The national club power ranking

The power ranking combines breadth and strength across every age group. A club receives 1,500 coverage points for its first active team, then 750, 500, 375, 275, 200, 150 and 125 for teams two to eight. Every additional active team adds 100 points. For example, 11 active teams contribute 4,175 coverage points. Each team then adds or subtracts its current rating difference from 1,500. That current rating already includes the verified adult or youth division bonus, counted once using the rules above. The All, Boys/Men and Girls/Women views recalculate the full score for the selected teams, so a club’s second Girls team receives 750 points in the Girls/Women view even if it is its fifth team overall.

Confirmed squads with no rated result still count toward breadth and receive no inactivity deductions. Once a squad plays its first rated game, its later inactivity penalties affect its rating and the club score once. Training offers alone do not count as competitive squads. A squad carried between seasons is counted once through its permanent lineage.

Participation below the base rating

A team with a performance rating below 1,500 immediately before a rated match receives a participation bonus: +10 points for a league or tournament game, or +5 for a friendly. This is added after the Elo adjustment, whether the team wins, draws or loses. Each team qualifies independently, so both can gain points from the same match. The bonus can take a team above 1,500; it stops for matches started at or above that rating. Results show the Elo adjustment and participation bonus separately. Unrated, disputed and rejected results do not earn a bonus.

Several games on the same day

When match times or order are unknown, every connected team uses its starting-of-day performance rating for each game. Experience factors and participation-bonus eligibility are also fixed for that day. We add the match points together at the end of the day, so their order cannot change the result. Timed games involving those teams or their same-day opponents follow the same rule; other timed games remain chronological. Result rows show the day-end rating for these groups. Days follow UK and Ireland local time.

Activity matters

A squad stays unranked with no inactivity deductions until its first accepted rated game. Both participants start their own clock even if one loses; other ages and sexes at the club are unaffected. From January 2026 onward, each completed empty calendar month after that first game creates a visible rating event: 10 points for the first inactive month, 20 for the second and 30 for the third. A month containing a recorded game resets the streak. August is always exempt, and adding a legitimate result later automatically replays the timeline and removes penalties that no longer apply.

Confidence matters

Organiser-published and mutually confirmed results receive full weight. One-sided reports receive reduced weight. Disputed or rejected results have no active effect.

Playing up earns protection

The normal points change is calculated first. A squad one year below the tournament division gains 30% more after a positive result and loses 30% less after a negative result. Two or more years below uses 50%. For example, a normal +20 becomes +26 for a U9 squad in a U10 event, while a normal −10 becomes −7. The age adjustment only applies when the club representative confirms that no players from the tournament age group represented that squad.

Girls in Boys tournaments

A Girls squad in a Boys youth event receives a further 30% participant adjustment. The percentages add rather than compound: U9 Girls in a U10 Boys event receive 60%, so a normal +20 becomes +32 and a normal −10 becomes −4. Only that squad’s points are adjusted; its opponent receives the normal change.

Room to find your level

New teams move faster: the first 10 rated matches use a factor of 48, the next 20 use 36, and established teams use 28. Both teams’ changes use the same pre-match ratings and their own experience factor.

A modest field adjustment

At least four previously rated entrants are needed. Pre-event entrant ratings are compared with the same national pool; the adjustment stays between 0.95× and 1.10×.

Goal difference counts, up to 10

Draws and one-goal wins keep the normal Elo adjustment. For wins, each extra goal of margin increases the adjustment by one ninth, up to twice the normal adjustment at a 10-goal difference. A 10–0 win and a 15–0 win therefore have the same weight; 5–4 and 1–0 also have the same weight. The multiplier applies to both the winner’s gain and the loser’s loss, before participant adjustments. Participation bonuses and inactivity penalties are not multiplied. All rated results, including past matches, are recalculated using this rule.

No paid advantage

Subscription status never affects rating weight. Corrections replay the result ledger; nobody can type a new team rating.
